Honda Racing Development Ltd

October 2008

Honda Racing Development Ltd employs around 150 long-term and short-term workers from abroad to support the Honda Racing F1 Team. It believes that preparation is the key to a successful sponsor registration application.

Before beginning their sponsor licence application, the company made sure that all the necessary supporting documentation had been gathered together.

'The registration process was easier than we expected it to be,' says divisional administrator Vanessa Wheeler. 'We were initially concerned about the type of information we would need to provide, but the process was actually quite simple. It really helped that we were well prepared beforehand.'

One of the challenges for Honda was deciding how to structure its registration in a way that was best for the organisation. Several meetings were held to agree how it would register, and who was best placed to act as the authorising officer and level 1 user.

'We considered the best registration structure for our organisation, and agreed to register Honda Racing Development as a separate entity,' recalls Vanessa. 'This allows us to keep control over our own destiny! We have kept the same administrative structure as under the work permits system, but we know that we can add more users as required once we know how the system works.'

Honda has some understandable concerns about the practicalities of how the process will work, but are looking forward to having more control over a simpler system. Vanessa says: 'The points-based system should make our lives much easier, and this new process will ensure that organisations take more responsibility for their migrant workers.'
